The understanding of human dignity begins in the story of creation (Gen1: 26–27) where we are told that human beings are created in the image and likeness of God. God saw that everything created was good.

The fundamental principles of Catholic social teaching are: Human life is sacred from the moment of conception until natural death, and the human dignity of every person must be recognised.

Concern for the health of its citizens requires that society helps in the attainment of living conditions that allow them to grow and reach maturity: food and clothing, housing, health care, basic education, employment, and social assistance.

Through your research what organisation have you discovered that promotes life and in particular is focussed on restoring dignity?

Our Saints Project

For past couple of months we have been working on our Saints Project .
This project really important for the grade 6 confirmation candidates because that at will be their given name .
For the grade fives this is a time to learn more about the catholic religion and to prepare themselves for next year .
 
Grade 6’s what does confirmation mean for you and what name have you chosen?
How are you like your saint or what can you learn from your Saint?

Every week we set our Learning Intentions. You work towards achieving those Learning Intentions throughout the week. This is a great way for you to personalise your learning. At the end if the week the you think about your learning; have Iachieved what I set out to learn and identify any areas I still need to focus on.

Usually the students write these learning intentions in their peronal journals. This week we have asked you to post your learning intentions on the blog.

We are wondering what will happen when we share them on the blog?

I wonder if this will make you more accountable to these learning intention and wheher you’ll find that you are more successful because you publically said what you intended to learn?

You have also been asked to think about the success criteria for your learning intention.

Take responsability for our learning (by completing work in the set time, by asking for help, by recording the instructions on our ipads…)

Reflect on the learning we have done this year in Numeracy

Identify which Numeracy skills and concepts we personally need to do work on and…

Improve our understanding of various Numeracy skills and concepts

Prepare an oral presentation and a Powerpoint presentation as two seperate things

Teach others new skills and encourage them to use blogging as a way of learning

  • read analog clocks
  • record the time on analog clocks
  • convert 24 hour time to standard (am/pm) time
  • calculate elapsed time problems
  • discuss the texts we read using the Literature circles roles in      order to improve our undertsanding of the text
  • write a biography
  • use PowerPoint to direct our learning
  • use PowerPoint to record our learning using mixed media

 

 

 

WOULD THESE IDEAS MAKE A GOOD LAW?

Dear 4AP,

We are Years 3 and 4 students at Woolamingi Primary School. We have some good ideas that we would like your class to discuss.

We think they are such good ideas that we are taking them to our local Member of Parliament, Mary Koukadis. We are going to ask her if she will present them to parliament so that they can become new laws. If you think these are good ideas please let us know.

  • During School hours students must wear hats when they are outside school buildings
  • Students must have two weeks of swimming lessons when they are in primary school
  • Each student will be given an ice-cream every day
  • All students must do an hour of homework a day
  • No television is to be watched at school
  • Children must pass a  bike riding test before being allowed to ride a bike
  • No homework is to be given at weekends or in school holidays
  • Students should start school on the Monday after their 6th birthday
  • Students must not bring glass bottles to school
